    Mayhem

    Helvete 7"

    (aka The Occultus Sessions)

I have wanted this 7" for a long time, so I finally coughed up the 75 dollars for it on eBay, even though I thought I would end up getting an already well documented rehearsal deliberately labeled with misinformation to make people buy it. But considering that this vinyl is the only known source of the supposed "Occultus Sessions," I had to actually buy it to see if it was simply deliberately mislabeled.

Oddly enough, the back cover is partly true. Both of these versions are exclusive to this release. You can't find these 2 versions anywhere else but here. What makes it more interesting is that the person who made this very interesting vinyl (take a look at the pictures with the file) obviously misled the buyer.

First off, the music for both Freezing Moon & From The Dark Past are from the June 1992 Greighallen recordings. Considering that, it would be impossible for these "sessions" to take place in 1991.

Freezing Moon has Dead on vocals. Believe it or not, there are actually 6 different versions of Freezing Moon with Dead on vocals that is either a rehearsal or studio other than this one. I think this version is actually an alternate take from the Freezing Moon Dead studio version. This version of Freezing Moon also has overdubs during the bridge which are not on the final Dead studio version. Furthermore, I am not sure if the overdubs are even Dead. The other voice during the bridge sounds deranged, though it still could be Dead, I am just not sure. Check for yourself.

As for From The Dark Past, the back sleeve says the lyrics for the song were written by Dead, but that is probably not true. He only performed 4 of the DMDS songs while he was alive though he may have written the lyrics to as many as two of the others: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk%3ADe ... m_Sathanas

As for the vocals on From The Dark Past, I think they come from the Spring '93 Atilla sessions, though I don't have a way to confirm that. All I can say is the some vocal production quality and tenor of Atilla's voice seem comparable to the Life Eternal demo.

Anyway, this is very rare and definitely not something you will find on your standard compilation of Mayhem demos/rehearsals. I recommend at least checking it out to see what you think.

To be honest, none of these tracks have Dead's or Attila's vocal parts. This is actually a rough mix of DMDS LP recorded in June 1992, Greighallen and compiled by Euronymous in late 1992 (not the same recordings as found on "From The Darkest Past") with vocals overdubbed by Occultus around 2004-2005.

as for the lyrics, Dead wrote all the lyrics to DMDS songs. Blackthorn (Snorre Ruch) did some corrections in the title track and "From The Dark Past" (he also came up with some riffs) and probably "Cursed In Eternity" Dead and Necrobutcher wrote together.

So all the vocals on this 7" are Occultus? Common mythology says that Occultus never recorded with Mayhem. So he did record vocals on these songs? Thanks!

Sorry, I've just noticed your post... Yes, it was Occultus who recorded vocals here. He did it not in the 90s, but in 2004-2005. He recorded his parts NOT BEING A BAND MEMBER, he just added his lines somewhere in middle '00s (as I wrote above) to a rough mix of DMDS. And, yes, only on two songs (Freezing Moon, From The Dark Past). At least, only these songs were released as a bootleg and circulate in the net.
