METAGENESIS were a Canadian Hard Rock quartet formed in Arnprior, Ontario in 1971.
At first concentrating on mainly playing cover versions, they toured throughout Ontario and Eastern Quebec from the mid '70's until the late 1980's, playing an average of 200 gigs a year.
1975 saw the band absorb new members Leonard Dombroskie & Murray Reid from the band SIMPLE FOLK SHOW who had released the 1974 single 'Grape Wine All The Way'.
By 1980 the band had built up a considerable catalogue of original songs, and decided it was time to concentrate more on their original music.
Line up changes that year saw Reid & Dombroskie depart and the recruitment of new bassist Heather Drummond.
1982 saw the band backing DELMER & CECIL on their song 'Valley Lads' on the CHEZ 106 FM compilation LP, 'The Spirit of Rock & Roll Album'.
The following year found Metagenesis appearing in their own right on another CHEZ 106 FM compilation album, 'Sharechez '83', with the self penned song 'Hey You'.
Later in the year they recorded and released their lone record, the six song 'Got What She Wants' Mini LP, released on Pame Records.
A sprightly collection of polished Hard Rock & Melodic Metal, it rises above the potential constraints of it's humble budget with some great performances & classy songwriting, and deserves to be far better known than it is.
The band returned thereafter to their hectic gigging schedule, later undergoing further line up changes before finally throwing in the towel at decades end.
Post-Metagenesis, vocalist/guitarist Darwin Demers went on to have the highest profile, passing through the ranks of the short-lived SHAKE THE GHOST before forming BARSTOOL PROPHETS, an Alternative Rock band who released three studio albums in the 1990's.
Nowadays he can be found plying his trade with veteran Canuck Southern Rock band THE COOPER BROTHERS.
