HANZ RIPPER were a U.S. Heavy Metal/Hard Rock band formed in the mid 1980's in Battle Creek, Michigan.
Singer David Eckler, bassist Jimmie Cowles & drummer R.R. Perry had previously been in a band called MY PYTHON who recorded a 6 song demo tape in 1985 before splitting up when their guitarist left.

Regrouping with Chuck DeFord on guitar, the new band took inspiration from the 1971 Hammer Horror film 'Hands Of The Ripper' for their band name.
The band recorded this 4 song demo tape in 1987, which includes a cover version of BLUE CHEER's 'Babylon'.
Bassist Jimmy Cowles would soon after join Athens, Michigan band FUGITIVE, recording the 10 song 'On The Loose' album which was released by King's Gambit Records on cassette only in late 1987.
It seems Hanz Ripper didn't last long after Cowles departure, and no further recordings appear to have been made.
In later years Eckler & his former My Python colleague, guitarist Mike Holden, would reunite in a band called Dr. WATT, and combine again in RICHARD WHISKEY BAND too.
Eckler is still singing in bands & was last seen in a reformed JOINT EFFORT, the band he fronted in the early 70's.
Guitarist Chuck DeFord later resurfaced in a band called SHIVER, releasing an album in 2002 entitled 'Lack Of Evolution'.
Hanz Ripper's drummer Randy Ray "R.R." Perry sadly passed away in 2021.
