General Metal Discussions » New Steel Assassin album versus Sabaton Records
  • 1
  • I'm a huge Steel Assassin fan. Just recently, I added the band's new disc to my collection, "WWII: Metal Of Honor." The CD is a concept album about WWII. It then got me thinking about Sabaton. Years ago, when I first heard Sabaton songs, I was blown away by how epic and anthemic they were. Then after getting all the albums, I realized that every song on every album basically sounded the same. Add a few cheese songs with band names and classic song titles in the lyrics (Metal Crue is an example of this), and I realized that Sabaton weren't all that deep. They basically have a number of songs with keyboards similar to Savatage's "Gutter Ballet" (See "Cliffs Of Gallipoli). I prefer the classic power of Steel Assassin's album to anything Sabaton.

    What do you people think?

If you haven't yet heard the new Steel Assassin, check it out on you-tube.

The new Steel Assassin stuff is really great, always I like the stuff of them while Sabaton for me is a bad band with the same theme in all their songs that live in their peak, a overrated band

Just heard the first song and it's pretty awesome. Has a very desperate feel with those verse leads.

I never cared for Sabaton too much - I've seen them live and enjoyed their set, but I don't spin their CDs - as you said, heard one song, heard 'em all, lol. Also, I appreciate a song or two about war, but I don't enjoy listening to entire albums about war. And the singer isn't up to my high standards.

For Steel Assassin, I have liked them since their early demo days and have all their stuff - great band! I did like their WWII cd a lot and very much prefer it to any of the Sabatons. Also the RUSH cover at the end is pretty cool.

Thanks for the great feedback. The only reason that I thought to post this is that I read a few reviews of the Steel Assassin, and there were comparisons to Sabaton being made based on lyrical content. Again thanks for the comments.

I love both bands, but Sabaton holds a special place in my heart. All their studi stuff deserves a 10 rating for me.
