https://i.imgur.com/LC1Oc4E.png
In this topic let the collectors know which are those legit record companies which re-release old albums in either CD or LP format. You can come up with anything from older re-releases to brand new. Let other fans know which companies are cool and which you can rely to when making a purchase!

If you have the knowledge please also take a comment what sort of albums have they re-released and how is their re-release album's quality? Since we have better and worse companies doing this.

The list of legit record companies that re-release old stuff -- added by:
Buried By Time And Dust Records -- Demonhellrogues
Displeased Records -- Heavy Thrashhead
Doomed Planet Records -- Demonhellrogues
Fills Du Metal -- Demonhellrogues
Hell's Headbangers Records -- Heavy Thrashhead
High Roller Records (Germany) -- Atlantis Metal
High Vaultage Records (Germany) -- gravedigger84
I Hate Records -- Heavy Thrashhead
*Note: Maximum Metal Records, Metal For Muthas Records working under the wing of High Vaultage
Iron Bonehead Records -- Heavy Thrashhead
Jolly Roger Records -- Demonhellrogues
Karthago Records -- Heavy Thrashhead
King Records (Japan) -- Heavy Thrashhead
OPM Records -- Demonhellrogues
Rockadrome Records (US) -- NJ_thrasher
RockCandy Records (UK) -- gravedigger84
*note: not to be confused with Rock Candy Records from the mid 90's who released bootlegs (diff logo)
Sentinel Steel (US) -- witchcross
Shadow Kingdom Records (United States) -- gravedigger84
Steel Legacy Records-- Demonhellrogues
Stormspell Records -- Strappado
Texas Metal Underground -- Demonhellrogues

May sound cheesy but by supporting good labels we get quality re-releases coming and even unreleased stuff to be heard! By supporting labels who are in contact with the band about releases we also support the bands themselves.

To get the ball rolling -- Shadow Kingdom Records gets mentioned very often and to my knowledge is legit. I don't think I've bought anything off them though so cannot comment on quality.

I better know High Vaultage Records from Germany who released 80's heavy metal and Nwobhm, and if I understood right had also few smaller labels working for them (Metal For Muthas label?). They were around at least 1997-2002 but perhaps even bit longer. My TANK's Honour & Blood it released at 1997. Although someone claimed that some of their records weren't legit? I don't know about that being true or not. Anyway their cd releases had nice booklets with written band-history (at least on about the part of the times centered around the specific album in question) and few extra pictures. Sound quality to my ears sounded just fine. They had their website up not that many years ago (5?) but they just disappeared without the trace and I have no clue whatever happened. I own several records of High Vaultage. Here's some albums that they released, it's supposed to be their catalogue at 2002 but lacks a few releases (source):

Yes, Shadow Kingdom is 100% legit, as is Sentinel Steel Records (USA), they make sure to contact all old members that can be contacted and get them involved in the process of reissue.

Agreed on Shadow Kingdom and Sentinel Steel - top quality releases and I've never heard of any question marks over their legitimacy. These are the kind of record labels that really need to be supported as they are small operations run by people who really care about the music. I'll add that the High Roller releases are also superb - lots of work clearly goes into producing them and I'm always amazed by the sound quality and the amount of material they unearth. I mean, they managed to get 2 CD's worth of material out of the NWOBHM band Scarab for example, who only actually released one 7" single!

I'm just reading a bio in Piledriver-Metal Inquisition booket. This album was released my Maximum Metal which belonged (in my understandment) to High Vaultage Records. Good stuff written by Gord 'the Pile Driver' Kirchin. Almost 10 pages. This is the basic well made re-issue album. Well written bio or story behind the album is very cool extra especially written by the bandmember who knows what he's talking about. Fucking hilarious 'bio' to read and cd also includes 'weido' interview done in 1986 with Rock Hard.

Should I also mention that the sound is not overly boosted or made too loud. High-end of the guitars is not killed and bass is audible but not too low-boosted. The way I like it 'cause I like that rough guitar mix with with razor-like biting highs and strong mids. If that makes any sense. :P

To the best of my knowledge, both Rockadrome Records (USA) and Metal Mind Productions (Poland) are legitimate reissue labels. I've seen albums from both labels in my favorite record shops, and they are good productions, often with bonus tracks and additional liner notes.

Some of Metal Mind's reissues are not exactly legit. They licensed a lot of their reissues from Roadrunner (based on long expired contracts) without contacting the bands. For example, their Toxik reissues, which came out at the same time as Displeased Records put out their versions with the input of the band.

Nice topic, i completely agree with Atlantis Metal, Shadow Kingdom, Sentinel Steel and of course High Roller records are ''labels that really need to be supported''.
Some more labels i try to support and i think that could be added to the list:
Buried By Time And Dust Records: High quality reissues of 80's demos/albums plus a few new releases - http://bbtad.blogspot.gr/
Steel Legacy Records: Specializes in vinyl reissues of 80's metal demos - http://steel-legacy.com/b/
Doomed Planet Records: vinyl releases of 80's demos/albums - http://doomedplanet.fateback.com/
Texas Metal Underground: Reissues of Texas Metal demos from the 80's - http://www.texasmetalunderground.com/pages/TMUframe.htm

Also OPM Records released some high quality 80's metal, mostly unreleased stuff.

Other labels that come to my mind are ''Fills Du Metal'' and ''Jolly Roger Records''.

Stormpell Records is a really great label, I have a few discs of their catalogue (Amulance, Hades, Midnight Priest, Vampyr) and the demos of the Red, White and Heavy Collection. All of this is a great stuff with great quality. I´m excited to see the reissues of Restless Breed, Iscariot and Assassin.

Strappado, the guy from Stormspell Records looks for bands that never release a full lenght and are the owners of their masters from their demos, why don´t you talk with him about bands like Neptune? they deserve the chance that their stuff will be more known for the Metal Maniacs

Hehe I contacted him about 2 years ago and asked if he was interested to reissue the demos of Witch and Kjell Peders
but he said it was nothing for the label.. so I guessed he didn't care much about that kind of stuff.

Anyway.. I have been in touch with the vocalist of NEPTUNE who claims that they recorded a single..
never heard of it before so I am awaiting more info on that subject. I'm pretty sure they have some
unreleased material in their valves to. The demos was very limited, only a few copies was sent out.

"The Guy" from Stormspell can contact me if he want more info or a contact address :).

Stormspell aha! That's why I've never heard of it before- they only make CD releases?
Too bad, still don't know how to overcome my inhibitions spending money for something else than vinyl. (hiding)
(Guess, not before I've all of the "important" records I'm looking for at home....)
