General Metal Discussions » Bands where one 'classic' or 'highly significant' lineup are now all dead and gone?
  • 1
  • Inspired by the passing of Fast Eddie who followed Lemmy who followed Philty Animal. A full lineup - let's not dive into discussions on whether it was the lineup, but at least it was one classic lineup - where none of the members are anymore among the living.

No collection of was-once-vocalist, was-once-guitarist, was-once-bassist, was-once-drummer who altogether could have been a lineup but never were in the band simulatneously, please. And no one-person 'bands'.

    Motörhead must be the biggest?

Not a metal band but punk, who influenced many (thrash) metal bands, was the original lineup of The Ramones.
Original / classic line-up of first three albums are gone.
    Joey, Johnny, DeeDee, and Tommy.

Not outright metal, but I should have remembered them. Not outright metal, but still: although some consider The Jimi Hendrix Experience a man rather than a band, the entire classic lineup was gone by 2008, when both Mitchell and Redding passing.
And, Emerson, Lake and Powell were not metal, and besides I'd say it was hardly a band in its own right, rather Powell substituted for Palmer who was contractually busy with Asia at the time.

The Vincent Crane/John Du Cann/Paul Hammond ATOMIC ROOSTER line up, (the one who recorded the classic 'Death Walks Behind You' album) comes immediately to mind. A grossly underrated band & all gone much too soon.

It makes a case for arguing that Motörhead lived harder, faster and louder than just about anyone else!

Hopefully this thread doesn't start to fill up with more examples too soon.

Another one just occured to me, the original SAMSON line up of Paul Samson, Chris Aylmer & Clive Burr have sadly all now gone.
Granted, this isn't what is generally considered to be the 'classic' line up, (usually Dickinson aka Bruce, Samson, Aylmer, Thunderstick), but it was nevertheless a highly significant version of the band, and the line-up which recorded their first 2 singles, 'Telephone' & 'Mr. Rock & Roll'.
