  • This is a sort of thread that would pop up a lot on a fair share of musically-minded FB groups and I figured it could possibly do pretty well here on this forum. It works pretty simple. One person posts a song. After that another rates it, perhaps adds in some possibly witty commentary about what he/she thought of it, and then posts a song of his own. Then another person rates that one, comments on it, posts a song and the cycle continues.

    I'll start.

Quicksand Dream - "A Child Was Born" from Aelin - A Story About Destiny (2010).

QUICKSAND DREAM fuck yeah, I'm a big fan of the band and also their earlier work as EPIC IRAE - great mix of epic and doomish metal
that never get's boring. I suck at writing reviews so instead I'll raise my fist and shout out a strong 8 (of 10).

Next one: Helvetets Port (Swe) - "Lightning Rod Avenger"

Cool topic. Alright, i loved quicksand dream, pretty damn good mixture of ol' school sabbath/priest heavy metal and epic power metal, one thing i love on it (and i'm not that much of musical expert either) is the bass, i've never focused on the bass lines on songs too much, but for some reason this time is different, the bass is pounding the ground in my direction and telling me "i'm right here motherfucker!" that bass is so bad ass it killed my neighbors grass when i put it on the speakers. The rest of the song pretty damn good. My scale would be from 0.0 to 5.0 and i'll give the quicksand dream's song posted above a 4.5.

    now here's mine:

@Strappado, LOL which one in that video you posted is you? (hehe)

Hellraiser, you was supposed to rate HP (hehe) not the first one, also you should post one yourself for the next reader to rate.

Edit: Saw that you added a song now, well dismiss my post - continue from Hellraisers contribution.

This actually turned out a lot better than I though it would. Music video is really silly (not taking/adding any points for that) but the actual music is pretty cool. Reminds me off High Level's 1982 demo but more fleshed out, although some o the transitions are sliiiiiightly awkward. A solid 85%.

"Oppressor" by Cyperus off the Blow It Out Your Ass demo from 1991.

Pretty good, the main riff is merciless, the solo nearing the end is bad ass too, even though is a pretty simple song that probably wouldn't stand out amidst the avalanche of similar music of its time, but still pretty good. I'm giving this one a 4.0. out of 5.0.

    Here's mine.

I remember being totally crazy for this band when this album was being hyped. I can't say I'm as big of a fan as I am now, but it's still good enough to warrant an 87% to my ears.

Pretty good song swede, thanks for introducing me to that great band, i say 4.5. because i love old school heavy, going to check out the rest of the album.

Minor in age but not in quality, pretty much like everything i've posted so far :)

Yeah cool! Total Manowar worship, but that's no bad thing. When the vocals first came in I thought it was going to be awesome high stuff the whole way through :( Maybe a bit too "German Power Metal-y" for my liking, but yeah, it's still pretty rad. 7/10

So for my song I'm going to go for another Wizard, from Aus:

You hit right in the spot in me aussie, i love epic candlemass-ish doom, loved the song, 4.5. for me, is not a very popular genre in this forum.

So that being said, lets keep bleeding through the same vein, aye?

I can't say I enjoy this particular take on death/doom that well, but this is better than most attempts at it I've heard, especially riff-wise. I'd give it a 67% personally.

Don't like the sound of the instruments, it needs some rough 80's-style production, and to get rid of the keyboard. Very good singer though, he makes the song listenable, if not enjoyable. 69%

[Axton Pryte} 70/100 - Pretty good although the guitar often sounds a bit sterile production wise and that does take away some of its hitting power.

[Night Conquers Day] 85/100 Great epic black metal song. Could of cut out the weird squealing guitar part and lowered the vocals a bit in the mix other than that it is amazing.
