This is from your lands, Strapp.

Sounds very like Blue Öyster Cult & Mecyful Fate.

Sorry, does not work for me.
Mercyful Fate did it first and way better, more than 25 years ago.

If I want a Fate clone I'd go for Portrait !

I don't think GHOST sound nothing like Mercyful Fate.. the only similarities may be their image.
GHOST have more roots in the old progressive/psychedeic scene with a mix of doom and heavy elements.
I find them pretty unique actually.. but yeah that's my opinion :)

Though this topic is called 'recently discovered' and since I know this great band for quite some time now, gonna post this here anyway.
I am talking about the german band Elvenpath, formed in 2001.
After a few demo's they released their first album in 2008, called Spyrol.

Cannot tell you much about that album for the simple reason I haven't heard it yet ! (hmm)

Second album just recently saw the light and is simply called Elvenpath.

Highly recommended. Epic power metal, nice hooks, great vocals, stunning solo's.

Feast your ears on this beauty guys and girls:
It doesn't get better than this.

I got to see the Michigan band Anguish open for Diamond Head last weekend, they weren't really a discovery, but it was my first time seeing them.

Saturday I witnessed the gig of the italian speedmetal band ASGARD (not to be confused with the italian Progoutfit of the same name) at the Swordbrothers and was delighted by their Agent Steel influenced music, especially the vocals in John Cyriis Style (high, piercing screams and good melody deliverance). While the gig was going on I went out to the merchandise to get a copy of their Debute-CD "The seal of madness", only to find out, I was too late, it was already soldout. Luckily the band had more CDs somewhere, so I could secure a copy later.
After first hearing it at home I'm even more excited, because the vocals offer in many of the more restrained passages great resamblence to John Arch and the guitarwork is certainly above standard. So check out this guys and let yourself be impressed by them as they impressed me!

CARONTE from Italy and their 2011 EP 'Ghost Owl'.
Not usually the kind of music I listen to, but I found the atmospheric feeling over the songs just mindblowing.

A few friends of mine from upstate NY were in this progressive metal band in the mid 90's called Requiem. They failed to get any sort of label support and disbanded but they were very very good, and great live as well. Heavily influenced by early fates warning, early Metallica, Savatage, and old Dream Theater. Interested what you guys think? This was a pretty damn good album, I thought...

I recently discovered an heavy-power German band called Solemnity. Their first album Reign in Hell is simply amazing.

This is how should be the heavy metal of 2000.

ATTACK are one of the best melodic German power/speed bands ever. I constantly spun their CDs after I discovered them in the early 90s. Superb band.
