General Metal Discussions » Black Sabbath Reunion - What do you expect?
Another Reunion seems to be perfect, according to Billboard. There will be a tour (of course) and a new studio album (Thta's what I call good news!!). I was very fond of the 2 Studiotracks added to 1998-Reunion-Album and utterly disappointed that no complete studio album followed.
What do you expect from this reunion?

I don't expect much. I don't want to start flame, so I won't say anything else.

I also don't expect much at all. I honor Ozzy for his great past - his work with Sabbath and the first two Ozzy solo albums. All brilliant stuff, and Ozzy deserves his place among the greats for this work. With that said, he has been on a long decline since Randy passed, and each year has offered up weaker and weaker material. His live performances with Sabbath reunion in the past have been painful, he could barely mumble the words to old songs. I don't think a new live Sabbath performance with a doddering Ozzy is going to be anything but even more painful. And of course we won't hear any great songs from the Dio, Gillan, Martin, etc eras of Sabbath - just Ozzy trying to remember the lyrics to Paranoid and Iron Man.

In the studio, Ozzy's flaws can be massaged away for an album, and Iommi can always write the riffs. So maybe the studio album could be ok. But I'm not expecting much, and would have preferred Sabbath find a real vocalist and done things properly, not just a way to make money off a big-name. We love you Ozzy for your past but you don't belong on a stage anymore and haven't sung well in decades, to be frank.

I'll hope for the best whilst fearing the worst.
I don't see any reason why Rick Rubin can't get a good studio album out of the guys, i just hope they keep it classic sounding and don't try to modernize their style.

" Heaven and hell" album from 2009 was good , but far from masterpiece.
And now good composer ( Dio ) replaced by poor composer ( Ozzy ). So, for me this release can be just interesting - sure , nothing more.

I expect even less if that is possible. I mentioned this on my website (Heavy Metal Time Machine) and as I taled it over with fellow writter Metal Mark we both came away with a sinking filling. Face it the Heaven and Hell band was alright (and that was Black Sabbath more or less) while Ozzy's last few albums have sucked ass. What makes anyone think this will be any good? Even when Ozzy was with Black Sabbath to begin with there was some classic albums yes but also a lot of turd rock. I have a feeling this will be a overly-produced, super slick modern version of Black Sabbath with zero reall effort put in. God please let me be wrong but man my gut tells me the best we can hope for is a decent/dull album. (no)

I hope that the coming reunion won't resemble the 1998's

Well, I'm going to see them for the first time next year, but I'm not happy about recording the new album. It would be better if they only played 70's stuff like they did in last reunion.

Hopefully it could be a good album especially if Rubin could prevent Ozzy and Tony from keeping the best bits for their own solo albums.
