I guess you are right.
Less is more.
Let the songs "breathe".
That's the secret.
And Inspiration of course.
A band the way you like it, is TRAPPAZAT (UK), although they were formed back in 1989 ... I think.
Their album released in 2012 "From Dusk Till Dawn" is awesome, in my opinion.

Thanks prince...just checked em out...exactly the build up and flow I was looking for...the breaks are on, contemplative jams, stoic style...
(hmm) (great) (clap4)

well at least this one...

but this was recorded in 89

guess the old guard are the only ones who can get it right....any others?

STONE DAGGER, OVVL, CHRISTIAN MISTRESS, MOON CURSE & THE DEVIL'S BLOOD are all newish bands who have caught my ear over the last few years by incorporating retro Traditional & NWOBHM influences and twisting them into something new.
These bands are American & Dutch, it's just a pity more young British bands aren't interested in taking the heritage of the original Heavy bands & NWoBHM on board & running with it.

THE DEVIL'S BLOOD - Voodoo Dust

OVVL - Feaster From The Stars (starts at 04:32)

STONE DAGGER - Black Clad Rider

CHRISTIAN MISTRESS - The Omega Stone

MOON CURSE - Black Elk

Maybe Í´m the only who think that Enforcer, Cauldron and similar bands are really boring, I prefer Blaze (Japan), Midnight Priest, Dexter Ward, Gatekeeper, Atlantean Kodex, Blizzard Hunter, Terminal, Virtud de Acero (is a chilean band, I recommed it to you) and others

Thanks Bros....

seven sisters is getting close

its a very specific indomitable accentuation... not doom not power/thrash that seems like a caricature

did some surfing, this is on track

im open to later 80s suggestions of bands that kept the sound but may have missed the wave as well

Great post! I'm always looking for newer bands that can let the song shine through without blastbeats drowning out everything. The singer for 3 Inches of Blood really evokes those high-pitched wailing singers of the 80s but their songwriting is a bit too modern metal to really capture the whole sound.

I've been digging A Sound of Thunder. Not really post-NWOBHM but good songwriting, vocals, and competent musicians.

yeah trying to avoid that pace and the whole high pitched singer thing

this is heavy...a bit captain beyond and although the rest of their stuff is pretty stoner psych its more in line with the tempo for this thread
