I put their 2010 album Purplessence up on these forums a while back, it's excellent. They brought in Heavy Metal Army's old vocalist, and turned into almost exclusively the metallic side of Deep Purple because of him.

Never heard of them until today but i checked out one song on youtube and it sounds fantastic!! Definitely going to track down the full album.

My personal favourite metal album from Japan is Another Dimension by BLASDEAD. It's perfect power/speed metal in the vein of early Scanner and Helloween. I've been trying to track the CD down for years. If i ever start my own record label i would definitely get at them for a vinyl press of it. Really overlooked/unheard of band IMO. Reaction is another favourite of mine. Their first 3 albums are great, fun heavy/power metal.

Besides the obvious great bands like Sabbat, Metalucifer, Loudness, X-Japan etc etc; i really enjoy stuff like Prowler, Rommel, Mein Kampf, Rosenfeld, Sniper, Yokosuka Saver Tiger, Double Dealer.

Also, someone mentioned Kuroageha early in this thread, they're fucking awesome! Never heard them before.

Zadkiel is cool. Bought their picture 7inch last year for a few bucks. They also have a flexi but i don't even dream finding it one day...

My favourite bands from Japan are :

Bellzlleb (everything they did)
Sacrifice (especially Crest of Black)
Tabbasa (the album particularly)
GISM (everyhting)
Sabbat (basically every studio albums with some exceptions).
