Yeah that is true - they sound very NWOBHMish. Actually I think they were rocking some years earlier than NWOBHM or at least some years before it's "golden age" lets say it like this (metal1) . By the way I'm not sure but I think bands who were foreign but still played at GB in the early 80's are considered NWOBHM? Who knows.. so many questions, I'm getting confused :P.

there are a couple (mostly Swedish bands come to mind, such as EF Band, who appeared on the NWOBHM comp Metal for Muthas) foreign acts who played so much in the NWOBHM style, that they are sometimes called that genre-wise, but these are exceptions that prove the rule - 99.9% of NWOBHM bands are British. IMO, early RIOT (which I love) is not at all in the style of NWOBHM, but more US Hard-Rock/proto-metal, almost in the way BOC were Hard-Rock/proto-metal in the beginning, but RIOT were more melodic. For sure, there are some NWOBHM touches in some songs, but as Peter pointed out, RIOT was putting out these albums before the NWOBHM movement and I don't think there's very much in common, to my ears.

Legendary U.S. metal band RIOT has inked a deal with Steamhammer/SPV Records for all territories excluding Japan. The band's new album, "Immortal Soul", will be released on October 28 in Germany, October 31 in the rest of Europe and early November in the U.S. and Canada.
