Ideas / Suggestions » A bunch of dudes saying thanks...
In various moments at soon time after I registered me I had to comment in postings because the download links did not appear when I clicked the button, and this was very boring. After two months aproximately this button problem did not happen anymore here with me fortunately.

Someone sugested that before, but a lot of users will download from others blogs or sites and upload here, trying to gain access to other features, thus, causing even more leeching.

It's ok for me. As I said before, we are NOT the musicians behind the music, so it's pointless to gain credits by ripping and scanning stuff, but that's another subject...

When I get a request I re-upload files but most of the time I don't get a thanks for taking the effort to do it. I haven't been on here in a while but I try to input a bit :-)

"I think we should build more restrict and tight rules. See Metal Archives, for example: they are a completely different website, but all those rules and borderlines keeps the website a peaceful place (not always, but...)" Killtava you mentioned this, the problem with Metal Archives is that it's a bunch of bureaucrats in charge of it. They don't even have John5's material on there and he's a shredder!

The thing is if you make it difficult for people to download or come on here they'll stop using it, it could make it difficult for others who have made an input but aren't on here all the time such as me.

There are people on the board like you who, whilst not neccesarily posting much music, make valuable contributions in other ways.
By being keeping topics rolling, starting threads, asking for recommendations, sharing opinions etc & just generally being engaged, helpful & easy to deal with on the board means you are contributing to our 'community'.
These are all things which are just as important as the music to the continuing prosperity & health of a forum like this.
I'm sure any changes that Strappado may or may not make to the board in the future would take contributions like yours into account.
It seems to me that the more active members are fed up with those who play no active part here, but who are only around for the 'freebies'. Especially those demanding ones with an arrogant sense of entitlement. You know who you are.
Alas, every forum i've ever been on, unless they are invite only, attracts freeloaders. They just seem to come with the territory.

I think I am going to start giving negative points to everybody that does this, saying thanks, when all they have to do is give points.

Sick of bumped threads with dead links, and then whoever said thanks does not even start a [NEED RE-UP] post request thread.

Any idea when Emil / Strappado is returning ?
Hopefully he will disable posts that only say "Thanks".

If not,
then I will follow stratocaster_123 's current method, and only those that CLICK the green buttons, will receive a private message with the download link. I will ignore all of the "Thanks" replies. (ah wait, I would have to apply for "Uploader" status, so maybe that won't happen.and no download links. Period.).

Click the Green Thumbs up, or green Thanks buttons, do not spam with typing "Thank you"

Recently, sometimes when I CLICK the GREEN Thumbs UP, it is a dead download link, because somebody else said "Thanks" ,
but did not start a [NEED RE-UP] thread ! (which we do here viewforum.php?f=179 ) do not bump threads with dead links. If link is dead, make a [NEED RE-UP] post.

I feel I have to repeat myself.
I agreed with others who started to talk about this, and a few more joined in... there were a few quarrels / debates over it,
yet, others still ignore everything all of us said.

For NEW members, and OLD members returning , a lot of us do not want pages of endless "thanks".

Insightful Comments pertaining to the release or the band, or a memory about it, is what we want, not a boring "thank you".

I wish that those with forum moderator and uploader status could remove bogus posts. There have been links to bootleg movie uploads posted here and adult/porn posts made here lately. This sort of shit is tarnishing our forum. This is a metal rarities page. People who make movie posts and posts of other unrelated garbage know this, but are doing it to purposely piss off the members who care about this site.

A idea: I think on a limit to members to they are able to write in postings. Exemple, to limit 2 times by day the [submit], to a user can to comment in postings. And the members only shall be able to comment if they give positive points to uploaders in the share postings. Emil could to do this to forum. Only a curiosity: Why Emil is very time off from forum?

It's certainly something to consider, though I doubt it would be applied exactly like that if it were to be done. Emil is still away for the time being also.

bump

a reminder
maybe an "ugly" reminder as some see it...
----------
Please read the RULES! Don´t spam "thank you" to see the hidden download link, but use the proper buttons instead:
http://i.imgur.com/XpCID5r.png or http://i.imgur.com/062S6uW.png
Please do this in any post so far you stole the download link at, or other negative reputation points may follow.
----------
2.6) Violating rule §5.1 "Don't spam/flood the forums! use the "Thanks for post" button if you want to see the link."
Use the http://i.imgur.com/XpCID5r.png button - Or giving positive reputation to an uploader by hitting the thumbs up button http://i.imgur.com/062S6uW.png
-------------
Look, guys (and women) , if you want to type something positive about what you were searching for, that is great.
if it is just a "thanks" or you 'always wanted this" or "this is rare", then that is spam and you might be copying and pasting others' comments as far we can know.

We encourage you to say more than that, but if you are too lazy or if English is not your first tongue / mother tongue ,
than please just click the links to give the up-loaders their points and you automatically get your download links.

Your "thank you" only posts, will cost you negative points. So either type a little more, or just click the icons.
It is getting boring / tiring ,by deleting all of these "thanks" posts.
Cheers.

Here is my little point of view.

@ canadaspaceman: It is great that you point out the rules and have suggestions within this thread, however, and I don't want to be negative, it is a bit of a moot point to do so here. If I go into a leecher's mind, I have the idea that the leecher does not read this types of threads or the rules and the regulations, but rather go straight to the music and download. And if they encounter a dead link they do nothing about it by reporting or otherwise and move on to the next link.
And I agree with you that removing the "Thanks", "THX", etc replies is a boring task. Maybe give some thread control to the person who started the thread, so that he or she can delete or edit the replies of his or her thread, and not have to rely to much on Moderators. Just an idea...

Someone said in this thread that it is not the uploaders responsibility to keep the a link fresh and alive but also a downloader part. I agree with that completely. I am not saying that it is a downloaders responsibility, but it can show a form of a thank you by keeping the thread alive with a new or alternative link.

It is true what riptorn said when a blog or forum is free there is bound to happen that freeloaders are coming out of the wood works. It indeed comes with the territory, nothing much you can do about it. My blog is also free, no sign ups, or whatever and indeed leechers all over the place. Since I restarted my blog in July 2013, the blog has about 1,8 million pageviews and yet maybe just about 20 people really being active on it.

Honestly, I don't care about what other users do. If they leech, so what.

I'm just uploading stuff a group of individuals produced and not my own work. I personally find personal ownership of album uploads to be really, really weird. In fact, i'm more than happy if someone reuploads my rips on another website. Making such things more widely available should be praised, not punished. I find the restriction of shared files to be more annoying/stupid more than anything else. Like...why even upload stuff when you're going to put a bunch of really stupid rules to downloading such things?

And if anyone wonders why I never really get into any thorough discussions here, it really isn't anything personal. I just don't have anything to say and isn't really the one to do that kind of discussion (on this site at least. there's other places i'm considerably more active in discussions). However, I at least try to upload my own rips whenever said items are applicable to this site in question.

I gave up 2 months ago to go back to strictly offline / snail mail trading,
but the lure of watching new TV shows and new cash to pay for internet service, got got me back.
But when reminding of leeching and nobody sharing back music, just bums me out. real downer.
Leechers have always had blogspots, but the forums are for serious metalheads that share.

i won't lie..
I ripped a lot of vinyl and tapes, for over than year, still sitting on a hard drive, and still never uploaded,
as I am pissed off that so many visit here and never even bother to re-upload what they took.

Very happy to be in snail mail contact with a couple dudes for snail mail trades and we will not share online.

Am I crusty? Ya better believe it. Sick of anybody emailing me for "lossless"/"flac", as if the mp3's were not good...
makes me think they are bootlegger scum...and i was an idiot for all the times I uploaded Lossless files..
(comment not directed at those that also share / upload Lossless).
--------
end of rant.
