The debut album, and from the get-go Gentle Giant were something special. I think this is actually their darkest album. Some songs are quite brooding, esp. "Alucard" which is 'Dracula' backwards, and there's this effect on the vocals that makes it feel like they are sung backwards....it's trippy. Maybe slight King Crimson influence, but a totally individual style of stretching the boundaries of song writing and being anti-commercial. I linked a few songs for you to listen to on youtube before deciding to download the beginning of these prog legends. They went on to release 7 more consecutively great albums before losing their sound and finesse. They were at the forefront of creating PROG ROCK.
